Christmas Eve That Christmas Eve I kissed the tears from both her eyes Whispered in Her ear Let's play a game Countdown from 10 We'll make it disappear Are you ready? As I turn the engine over She curls a hand in mine We follow all those yellow cat's eyes into the dumb black night She says She's falling She calls my name She says She's falling it's hard to explain why we're doing this again When we arrive they dress Her in a blue gown Tied with ribbons at the back She says that She feels like Alice from the book The Doctors are detectives searching for their clues Charcoals burning in her mind and tearing it loose She says She's falling She tries to explain She‘s 'good with faces but what is my name?' They show me Her memory up on a silver screen All that She's ever loved and seen Each time they cut blackness away from Her She's getting better and I disappear While She lies sleeping I take off Her ring When she wakes up She won't remember a thing

Home Old man Misguided as I am You have been my teacher A silver thread Buried in our blood Yet it pulls us nearer I am my Father's Son His fearsome, fragile charm I have my Mother's kindness Her weariness of mind I will never forget the place that I once called home I'll run fast as I can into the great wide unknown Set sail when the moon is full and the Sun is sleeping Gold timber on a silver mirror, a compass in hand I'm leaving once again No gold - but a golden plan I will never forget the place that I once called home I'll run fast as I can into the great wide unknown But don't misplace your faith in silence We are tidal Hear us as we roar Old man, be careful where You stand I've become your teacher

Paper Aeroplanes Watching old movies in the afternoon Thinking that You're gonna be home soon I thought I heard You call my name as the credits start to roll It was just my imagination running wild Have I let You down? Did I do You wrong? Some bridges torch themselves, some beg to burn We're just paper aeroplanes trying to last the flight Washing dirty dishes with a dirty cloth Winding up my body like a broken clock I thought I heard you call my name as the credits start to roll It was just my imagination running wild Have I let You down? Did I do You wrong? Some bridges torch themselves, some beg to burn We're just paper aeroplanes trying to last the flight We're just paper aeroplanes trying to make good time Time is on my side She'll come back They always come back They never come back Did I let You down? Did I do You wrong? Some bridges torch themselves, some beg to burn Did I call your bluff? Was it mine to call? Some bridges torch themselves you tore this down We're just paper aeroplanes trying to last the flight

Newfound Shore Out of the beast I took all of my present tense I knew the storm would pass Revealing a newfound shore Lost on the storm And somehow reborn Out of the time I'd saved I knew you'd spend it all Dressing your days in black Now your red dress lies rags on the floor The storm will pass Revealing a newfound shore Lost on the storm And somehow reborn The storm will pass Revealing a newfound Shore We push and force and strive Revealing a newfound Shore Lost on the storm And somehow reborn

Sunrise Mountain Coyote crazy girl you push your chin into an Autumn Sun A knapsack on your back You wrap your nonsense up in silken scarves To sing your heart To pirouette And send those memories home I say a little prayer and press a golden bell into your hand You ring it when you find that you're the scream and you're the avalanche All those miles I cross them all with you Footprints in the soil Wisdom in the water Power in the play Fire in the night time sky I slip a kiss into the wind, just for you Coyote crazy girl you lift your face into an Autumn Sun Sun-kissed conquistador I know you'll rise and rise… Footprints in the snow Steam on kitchen window Fire in the night sky Pockets of time- I'm glad I held yours you held mine I hear you singing out on Sunrise Mountain I hear they're lighting fires on Sunrise Mountain All those miles- I cross them all with you Coyote crazy girl I wrap my nonsense up in Silver sound For you to rest your head

about

These songs were recorded between 2011-2012 at my friend & producer Gavin Hammond's house, in Vauxhall, London. Most songs were written in the previous 6-12 months except What am I supposed to do? which I'd written some years before, but felt it fitted here.

It's an album born from a love of John Martyn, Nick Drake, the peace of the Countryside and islands of green between the City's grey strips.

Enjoy,
Russell x
